Metas have the ability to reinstate editors who have resigned, timed out, or otherwise lost their ability to log in. This section includes procedures for handling different types of editors requesting reinstatement.

Editors with Higher Permissions (Editalls, Metas, Catmods, Cateditalls)

• Reinstated or denied by admins or staff only.

Editors in Good Standing and Accidental Removals

• Reinstate.

Editors in Good Standing Who had Poor Editing Abilities (Minor)

• Reinstate with advice as needed.

Editors with Poor Editing Abilities (Major) and/or Abusive Editing Who Timed Out or Resigned

• If the reviewing Meta feels the editor's contributions were not abusive or so egregiously poor to warrant removal, the Meta may reinstate the editor with a warning or specific advice for improvement.
• If the reviewing Meta feels the editor's contributions were abusive or so egregiously poor to warrant removal, the Meta should do the following:
  • Place a "hold" note on the reinstatement application.
  • Discuss the editor's reinstatement request with other Metas in the appropriate Meta forum.
  • Denial of reinstatement must be discussed and voted upon following the guidelines for editor removals: a minimum of 5 votes with a 24 hour wait period.
  • If the required 5 votes to deny are not obtained within 7 days of the current reinstatement denial discussion being started, the reviewing meta may act on the reinstatement request using his/her best judgment, taking into account any other views expressed in the discussion. As with editor removals, a single editor voicing an opinion strongly in favor of reinstatement should normally result in reinstatement. Metas are encouraged to make reading and responding to denial threads a priority to ensure that abusive editors are not reinstated.
• All reinstate requests and associated discussions are subject to staff review and appeal.

Editors Who Were Previously Removed for Poor or Abusive Editing

• Deny reinstatement, discussion is not required.
• If the reviewing meta feels that the editor's case should be discussed further s/he may place a "hold" note on the reinstatement application, and post in the appropriate Meta Only forum thread.

Editors Who Were Previously Denied Reinstatement by Staff or Meta Consensus

• Deny reinstatement, discussion is not required.
• If the reviewing meta feels that the editor's case should be discussed further they may place a "hold" note on the reinstatement application and post in the editor's denial thread, or create a new thread in Joint Meta if one has not yet been started.

Editors Who Were Previously Denied Reinstatement Under the Previous Method

• The reviewing meta should disregard the previous denial and treat the case as if the editor had never previously requested reinstatement.
• Whenever possible previous denial reasons should be obtained and taken into consideration.

At any time metas should feel free to discuss any reinstatement in the Joint Meta forum. After reinstating any editor the reviewing meta should visit the editor's profile to ensure the categories held prior to reinstatement are still valid.

• If the editor has category links which have zero sites, check if the category has been moved or deleted. Find the most closely matching new category and grant the editor access to that category. After granting access to the new category you should remove the editor from the old location, with notations explaining the change.
• If the editor resigned from his/her categories upon departure, all categories resigned may be granted to the editor.
• If the editor's sole category was deleted and the sites sent to multiple categories, use your judgment to pick the most similar category, or feedback the editor and ask him/her to a suggest a new category of comparable scope to edit. In either case, use your ability to grant this category instead of asking the editor to apply for the category.
