Welcome to the first edition of DMOZ Monthly. This newsletter is designed to keep ODP editors informed about what's going on around them in our ever growing environment at dmoz.org. With an editor tally of over 23,000 editors, we decided it was high time we developed a more formal means of communication. The ODP is much more than a pack of editors, but a true web community (no...it's not our big dysfunctional family).

DMOZ Monthly will contain a number of regular features:

ODP in the Press - Links to the latest ODP press coverage.
New Categories to Watch - A look at some of the new categories being developed.
Ontology Beats - Columns covering the latest news and activities for all topical categories.
Call for Help - A rundown of areas that are particularly heavy on the unrevieweds.
New Editalls and Metas - A list of the latest editors who've taken on new responsibilities.
Good Reads - A regular feature devoted to some of our more memorable forum threads.
Newbie Tips - Hints and tips for editors just starting out or those that want to brush up on their skills.
What's Cooking at ChefMoz - A summary of what's going on with the latest DMOZ project - ChefMoz.

Another upcoming regular feature will be a section called Guidelines Update. The ODP is a growing, changing and evolving entity, as is the Internet itself. As a result, new policies have to be created as new situations develop. We can't stress enough how important it is for editors to abide by the guidelines. The Directory Guidelines were revamped recently, and we urge you to review them at http://dmoz.org/guidelines.html. Important changes include site specific guidelines covering everything from Multi-Level Marketing sites to Affiliate Links; updated Spam guidelines; and a section clarifying Grounds for Removal. These are just a few of the changes, so be sure to read the new guidelines in detail, and look for the Guidelines Update section in future issues of DMOZ Monthly.

In addition to the above regular features, DMOZ Monthly will also contain articles. Editors are encouraged to participate, and we happily accept article ideas and submissions. We plan on running two to three articles per month. One regular article we'd definitely like to see is a  feature story about an editor. But that will require submissions -- so get involved! For the time being, send article ideas as well as any suggestions or feedback on what you'd like to see in this Newsletter to editor Bruns.

I'd like to thank those who participated in this launch issue - the staff editors, as well as editors Ffabris, Pepe, and Bcwine. I'd also like to give a special thanks to staff editor Krauss for doing all of the html, layout and graphics on this first issue. Thanks much to everyone.
