Editor Profile: newwave and Czarria by Lisa Girl
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so they say. I wanted to conduct an editor interview and could think of no one better to imitate than Barbara Walters of U.S. ABC-TV fame.

Ever since joining the ODP ranks, I've been thrilled with the editor's tools created by Newwave, a.k.a. Eric Sechrist. He and editor czarria, a.k.a. Sara, were just married on June 17, 2000. What a coup, I thought - two editor interviews for the price of one!

This being a no-budget volunteer effort, I couldn't afford Barbara's plush studio for the interview, so I welcomed Eric and Sara into the waybackseat of a 1967 Ford Fairlane station wagon

First, tell us how you two met and what attracts you to each other. Since you're newlyweds, please try to keep it down to a few dozen hours of glowing descriptions.

Newwave: Hmm... well, we met online in a chat room which no longer exists... Smiley's Nirvana Chat Room... I'm attracted to her winning personality, gorgeous smile and impeccable taste in men ;-)

Czarria: Like he said, we met in a Nirvana Chat room, in 1996. A year later in real life. I am attracted to him because of his sense of humor, his dimples, his soulful eyes and his hair.

There's an old wives' tale that a marriage will be successful if there was at least one disaster during the wedding and its preparations. Tell us about your disaster.

NW: Well, the preacher said "Do you, Eric Sechrist, (is that how you pronounce it?)"... but I expect that since no one can say it. *sigh* (It's see-krist, sounds similar to secrets.)

Czarria: Let me add something ..the photographer we had booked cancelled the day before our wedding, leaving us to a no-name man that took horrid photos.

(Here they are, beaming smiles and all - http://www.redrival.com/czarria/awww.jpg and http://www.angelfire.com/journal/gothchild/swedding/base.html )

Czarria, one of the cats you edit is Arts/Music/Bands_and_Artists/B/Buckcherry . What the heck are they?

Czarria: Buckcherry is a 5 piece rock and roll band straight outta L.A. High energy, fast music. Makes ya feel good instead of depressed. :)

Eric, tell us about Recreation/Food/Drink/Soft_Drinks/OK_Soda

NW: OK Soda! Aaaaa! Coca-Cola tried to pitch a new drink to generation X (I think) and called it OK Soda... if you don't remember it, next time you go to a fast food place that lets you fill your own cup, mix in approximately equal amounts of all the pop they offer...specifically orange, cola, Dr. Pepper, and Mountain Dew (if possible) to get something similar. It flopped, probably because I liked it.

(Interviewer's thought: In my day, we called that a "garbageman")

What keeps you addicted to volunteering time on ODP?

Czarria: Not wanting to hear Eric say "it's about time you edited your cats".

NW: It's better than work. ;-)

***
Anything you want to tell us about yourself, non-ODP related?

Czarria: I'm an avid book and music lover.

NW:: Um.. probably nothing fit to print. :-o

Okay, Eric, what's the deal with station wagons? This is an odd place to be conducting an interview, after all!

NW: Station wagons rule! I currently own two and am looking at a third, a 1984 Buick Electra. They're just a great all-around vehicle. And my '87 Colony Park can outrun my boss's 2000 Ford Mustang :-D

Czarria: Let me add something. I hate his station wagons. Make it stop!!

(I lean over and whisper in Newwave's ear "This is the time where you, the husband, learn to smile and say 'Yes dear, you're right of course!'" )

****
Last question, but an important one: Peanut butter - smooth or chunky?

Czarria: Neither. Blek.

Newwave: Smooth!

(Note to self: Maybe your idea to imitate Barbara Walter's "If you were a tree...." question was not so smart.)

And so, fellow editors, I'm sure you will all raise your glasses in a virtual toast to the newlyweds.

Eric and Sara, here's to much happiness, few station-wagon-related arguments, and of course, a lot of laughter and romance. CLINK!
