Dear Nan, I've got an idea to rearrange some of the subcategories I edit. Per the guidelines I should discuss changes with editors in the categories above mine. I know I can send feedback to each editor individually. Is there a way that I can get the email addresses of all these editors and just send them a single email instead? -Editor Feedback Dear Feedback, Yes, there is an easier way to send feedback to a whole group of editors. Under the "Tools for Editors" link on your editor dashboard you will find an abundance of editing tools including several multiple editor feedback tools. The direct URL to the Tools is quite long - http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/WWW/Searching the Web/Directories/Open_Directory Project/Tools_for_Editors/. But you can can also use the shortcut located at http://dmoz.org/tools/. Editors gruban and newwave have created the following multi-feedback tools: http://www.nwprod.com/odp/sendtomany.mvhttp://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Vista/2013/odp/multifeedback.html You can use either of these tools to send feedback to your listing of relevant editors. Make sure to send a copy to yourself as well. Please make sure to use these tools for ODP related purposes. It would
be in poor taste to send non-ODP related messages to editors using these
tools. As well, there is no public listing of editor email addresses. This
is done in part to ensure your privacy.
Dear Nan, I've been writing descriptions for the subcategories under Society/Issues/ODP-Addiction, but when I look at the public description of Soc/Iss/ODP-Addiction the new descriptions do not show up. How do I fix this? Please help. Going nutty over descriptions,
Dear ODPXS, Bravo on your efforts to write descriptions! Category descriptions are useful to explain to submitters where to submit sites and can also provide additional information about the subject matter of the category. In order for the descriptions of immediate subcategories to show up
in the description of the parent category, the description for the parent
category must be edited. Editing the parent category description will cause
dmoz to regenerate the public category description page, including the
descriptions for immediate subcategories. The edit you make in the parent
category does not need to be large. It could be as simple as adding a period.
A few minutes later you should be able to check the public description
and find the results of your category describing efforts. If the old version
still shows up, try holding down the shift key while telling your browser
to refresh or reload the page.
Dear Nan, I don't like my editor name. Is there anyway that I can change it? -Editor Changed My Mind Dear editor "Changed My Mind", Unfortunately there is no way to change your editor name at this time. Give your name some time, you may start to like it. There have been several forum threads devoted to the origin of editor names. Several editors did not like their names at first. Check out the "What's in a name?" thread in the Penguin Cafe forum to learn the origins of some of fellow ODP editor names. Editor larrycampbell hosts a listing of all the editor names that have
ever been used. Take a look and I'm sure you will find some interesting
names. http://redrival.com/lnc/alleds/
