The fairly quiet forum activity at ChefMoz belied the amount of actual editing that's been going on in the ODP's restaurant directory. The listings and reviews in the directory continued to grow at a very respectable pace. Between the beginning of January and the beginning of April this year, the number of restaurants listed increased by over 5,500 -- that's 13% in four months. The US part of the directory has slipped past the nice round number of 50,000; it stands at 51,272. Listing ChefMoz Entries in DMozJust because the two directories are both under the ODP banner doesn't mean we should treat them preferentially when it comes to linking and listings. For DMoz editors that means that you should look at what ChefMoz has to offer for your country, state or locality. If it will be useful and valuable to someone who's looking for an online restaurant guide, then you should list it. Typically restaurant guides are listed in the Regional/ <country, state or locality> /Business_and_Economy/Restaurants_and_Bars/Dining_Guides category. If this does not exist, list at the next closest level up or consider creating the subcategory. List the section of ChefMoz for the relevant area, not a higher level. The following is a listing template for ChefMoz that has been discussed in the Regional forum. You can use it as is, or you can alter it to include different aspects of the guide.
Incidentally, the capitalization of "ChefMoz" has been decided on by ChefMoz editors. The changeover of the pages of the directory is not complete, though, so you will still see alternate versions like "Chef Moz" and "Chefmoz" in the directory. If you're already a DMoz editor, go to the dashboard at http://chefmoz.org/editors/ . If you can't log in there, get your login activated by going here: http://chefmoz.org/cgi-bin/apply.pl?where=dmoz and filling in your username. (If you have an account, but have forgotten your password, you can get a password reminder at http://chefmoz.org/cgi-bin/password.pl.) Then apply for one city, usually your home town. Familiarize yourself by reading the fora, guidelines, and FAQ and start adding restaurant listings! And no, you do not need to know how to critique restaurant food in order to edit at ChefMoz. Heck, you don't even have to know how to cook spaghetti. Statistics as of the first week of May:
