"In April 2000, staff launched the DMOZ newsletter. With the help of
the staff editors, we prepared regular articles and accepted contributions from
all of you. In the spirit of building a self-regulating community, we'd hoped
the community would eventually take ownership of the newsletter completely.
I think we have reached this stage."
The newsletter can only continue with your input. We need your articles and your suggestions.
The current incarnation of the Newsletter forum thread, at http://dmoz.org/forum/threaddisplay.cgi?t=Forum1/HTML/002934.html, outlines some of the areas you can help with, and lists who has volunteered to look after some of the regular sections.
Of course, we always need one-off articles too. If you have anything you'd like to see included in the newsletter, why not get writing?
Maybe writing isn't your thing... well, no problem at all. There are many other ways you can help. Perhaps you would consider creating graphics, coming up with design ideas, suggesting threads for the "Good Reads" section, sending in links to ODP related items and press on other sites, pointing out new and interesting categories, or categories in need of help, or whatever you think you can do to help.
Finally, thanks to all who have submitted material for this newsletter, and to staff and previous contributors for past issues.
You may have noticed on the newsletter page that the Open Directory Project site counter has passed the three million mark. You can read about the build-up and 3 million sites pool at http://dmoz.org/forum/threaddisplay.cgi?t=Forum35/HTML/001244.html. Congratulations and thanks to all editors, past and present, for bringing us this far.
