Newsletter
Another newsletter, another managing editor. Many thanks to the whole newsletter team for providing content for this edition. Lots of
hard work went into getting this edition out quickly.
Enarra gets a big hug for whipping persuading editors to get articles submitted.
You'll notice a new style for this newsletter, which is the handywork of artisands.
Looks pretty cool, eh?
And makrhod gets a special nod too. Three articles in a single newsletter is
the new World's Record. Maybe not. It's an ODP record anyway. (And if it's not, then a
to anyone that actually checked.)
Articles for the next newsletter should be sent to ishtar until we decide who's going
to be the new managing editor.
Mission Statement
We were asked by dlugan to provide our thoughts in order to Help determine ODP's Mission.
This thread was monumental, because he asked us to refrain from commenting on other's posts so that everyone felt comfortable submitting their thoughts. After a
few weeks, and a small miracle that there was hardly any discussion in the thread, we got the results.
Summary of ODP Mission Survey. Woohoo! We still don't have that mission statement yet, but sources
inside the Admin confirm that they are working on it night and day.
Projects.dmoz.org
The administrators have developed a new system for managing directory-wide projects. Lots of information about it can be found in the
announcement thread. The core part of the new project management model is
Project Central, a platform where you can find information on all running and upcoming projects. A related novelty in the
newsletter is the newly introduced regular column entitled "Projects". It offers an opportunity for project participants to report on
their work and present the results.
Editor Awards
We had another set of editor awards since the last newsletter. enarra did well again,
as usual. When asked how she always wins, she responded, "There's a massive meta conspir... is this on the record?"
oneeye has started campaigning for the Most Long-Winded editor in the next Mozzie's
already. Find everything you wanted to know about the last Mozzie's, and a whole lot more, in the
Mozzie Wrap-Up.
The full results of the 2005 Summer Editor Awards can be found in the thread titled
2005 Summer Editor Awards - Results, naturally.
Congratulations to all the winners, runners-up, and nominees. And all those people out there that are good editors, but too quiet to get noticed... open up the
forums and get noticed! Then you'll have a nice banner to put on your profile. Until next time...-
